City Parks Foundation (CPF) is the only independent, nonprofit organization to offer park programs throughout the five boroughs of New York City. We work in over 750 parks citywide, presenting a broad range of free arts, sports, and education programs, and empowering citizens to support their parks on a local level. Our programs and community building initiatives reach more than 600,000 people each year, contributing to the revitalization of neighborhoods throughout New York City.

Attendance at SummerStage grew by 10 percent, with highlights like poet and performer Gil Scott-Heron, jazz icons Jimmy Scott and McCoy Tyner, rockers Living Colour, salsa sensations Frankie Negron and Eddie Palmieri, rap pioneers Public Enemy, hip hop legends Big Daddy Kane, Brand Nubian and EPMD, Senegalese singer/songwriter Baaba Maal, white-hot indie newcomers St. Vincent and The XX, Touareg rebel-rockers Tinariwen, Syria's electronic innovator Omar Souleyman, gospel greats Hezekiah Walker and Smokie Norful, contemporary R&B stars Ryan Leslie, Chrisette Michele and Mario, and The Metropolitan Opera among dozens of other performers.
Plans are already underway for another mesmerizing line up for our 26th season in 2011. SummerStage will continue in the tradition of offering an eclectic mix of programming for all tastes. Expect to see more emerging talent complemented by performances from established artists and SummerStage alums who will return to rock the stage. Foster The People came together in late 2009 when Mark Foster met band mates Cubbie Fink and Mark Ponitus through mutual friends in the Los Angeles music scene. Foster hailing from Cleveland, OH had been writing and recording music since his youth but it wasn’t until the three members came together that Foster’s music for the bands upcoming debut release, Torches, was ready for friends to hear.
In early 2010, Foster The People posted their first song “Pumped Up Kicks” on the internet. Days later it was used to score a friend’s fashion video, days after that it showed up on Hype Machine and a year later it had seemed to make its way into the ears of millions of listeners around the world.
Foster The People released their first EP this January to give fans a taste of what they’ll hear on Torches which is out this May! Until then the band will be on the road playing a completely sold out U.S. tour with stops including SXSW, Coachella and Sasquatch music festivals.

Young the Giant is a band that has meticulously written and crafted songs together for three years, lived out of shared bedrooms and messy suitcases for two years, and hopped on and off of planes, buses, vans, cars and their beloved bicycles for over one full year, having played more than 160 shows in the past 365 days on 3 different continents.
To date, the band has received innumerable "Band To Watch" accolades from outlets like The New York Times, Spin and Nylon to name a few, and were selected by MTV to perform at the 2011 Video Music Awards and MTV Unplugged. And, with their singles "My Body" and "Cough Syrup" hitting #4 and #2 on the Modern Rock charts while reaching over 10 million YouTube views of their videos, clearly there's something undeniably special about this band.
