City Parks Foundation (CPF) is the only independent, nonprofit organization to offer park programs throughout the five boroughs of New York City. We work in over 750 parks citywide, presenting a broad range of free arts, sports, and education programs, and empowering citizens to support their parks on a local level. Our programs and community building initiatives reach more than 600,000 people each year, contributing to the revitalization of neighborhoods throughout New York City.

The 2011 season promises to be as impressive as ever, with over one hundred free performances including twenty nights of great plays in seven parks throughout NYC.
For theater enthusiasts, SummerStage has commissioned two distinctive theater pieces from up and coming playwrights Mando Alvardo and SummerStage alumna Chisa Hutchinson. The first, “SANGRE” is a spirited re-envisioning of Federico García Lorca’s classic, “Blood Wedding” while “TUNDE’S TRUMPET” is a family-friendly musical featuring a cast of puppets. Viewers will be delighted with INDOMITABLE: JAMES BROWN, a testament to the musical, political and entrepreneurial impact of James Brown. The celebrated Classical Theatre of Harlem will explore the brutally thoughtful, fiercely funny, belligerent diplomacy of King HENRY V as they interpret William Shakespeare’s classic. The Faux-Real Theatre Company, known for their plays set in unique environments, will perform two classics from the Greek cannon, Sophocles’ OEDIPUS and Aeschylus’ SEVEN AGAINST THEBES.
